How to export an address book
Outlook Express 5 and 6
Outlook Express address books use a .wab file for saving email addresses and other information.
- Open Outlook Express.
- Click File on the menu and select Export then Address Book...
- Select the type of file or program you want to export your address book to and click Export:

If you want to export the address book from Outlook Express to Outlook, select the Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book. This will automatically export address book to Outlook but will only work if a "Personal Address Book" service is set up in the Outlook profile and that it is set up for use as the current Address book. You may also receive an Outlook login prompt during this operation if Outlook is not running.
- Export as text file to import to E-mail Programs or Excel
If you want to save the address book as a Text File (Comma Separated Values) or "csv" file so that other programs, including email programs and Excel, can import and parse the data, click the Browse... button to select the location where the file will be saved (e.g. your desktop). Type in a name for the file and then click Save. Click Next. Click to select the check boxes for the fields that you want to export. Click Finish.
Netscape 4.x
Address books are stored in .nab and .na2 files. The addresses can be exported in tab or comma-delimited text files or and .ldif (LDAP Data Interchange Format).
- Open Netscape Communicator.
- Click Address Book on the Communicator menu.
- Select the Address Book to be exported under the Directory column.
- From the File menu, select Export.
- Select Desktop from the Save in menu.
- Type a filename for the address book and choose the file type.
- Click Save.

Address books are stored in a .mab file. While there is no method of exporting the abook.mab address files as there was with Netscape 4.x., you can generate a text file by installing the Generic printer with FILE: as the printer port:
- Click Start and select Settings then Printers.
- Double click the Add Printer icon.
- Click Next.
- Select "Local Printer" and click Next.
- Select "Generic" from the list of manufacturers and click Next.
- Select FILE: as the port.
- Create a folder to store the address book files. Create a folder to store the files. Note that a file for each card in the address book will be generated.
- Printing a document using the Generic printer will bring up the "Print to File" dialogue box. Save the file as a *.prn file (plain text file).
- To print, open the Netscape addrses book (select a single entry or select all by pressing Ctrl+A). The Print to File dialogue box will appear, requesting that you to save the file as a *.prn file. The files can be combined and edited and made into a comma-delimited or .ldif address book file. The comma-delimted of .ldif file can then be imported into Netscape Communicator or Outlook Express by using the COPY command from an MS-DOS command prompt in the format: copy *.prn filename

Address books are stored in a .mab file.
- Open Netscape.
- Click on the Window menu and select Address Book.
- Click once on the address book you want to export to select it.
- Click the Tools menu and select Export.
- In the Export Address book dialogue box, click Browse to select the location where you want to save the file. Type a name for the file into the File name: field.
- In the Save as type: field, choose a file format for the exported address book from the drop-down menu - LDIF (*.ldif), Comma-Separated (*.csv), or tab-delimited (*.tab,*.txt).
- Click Save.
