Check Dialup Settings - Windows 98

Open My Computer and double click Dial-up Networking. Right click your Tri Way Net icon and select Properties.

Use area code and Dialing Properties should NOT be checked. While you can enable Dialing Properties, we recommend you type the entire number INCLUDING properties into the "Telephone Number:" field (see below). Verify the local access number in the Telephone number field and be sure the number you are calling is local.

The number should be entered exactly as it needs to be dialed. For example, if you need to dial the area code enter the number as XXX-XXX-XXXX.

To disable call waiting, type in *70, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have tone dialing or 1170, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have pulse dialing. Note: Some phone companies use 70# to disable call waiting; if this applies to you, type in 70#, XXX-XXX-XXXX. If you are not sure what your call waiting code is, please contact your telephone company for this information.

If you need to dial 9 to get an outside line, enter the number as 9, XXX-XXXX.

Note: Dashes (-) and spaces are not required, but using dashes can allow you to more clearly distinguish the area code from the exchange and the final 4 digits.

Make sure that the correct modem is chosen in the Connect using box.

Click the Server Types tab. Only the following options should be checked:

  • Enable software compression
  • TCP/IP

Click OK to save the changes and double click the Tri Way Net icon.

Note: If the computer starts to dial the connection, click Cancel. Then, click the Connections menu and select Settings. Check Prompt for information before dialing, click OK, and double click the Tri Way Net icon again.

Check your username, and if necessary, re-enter your password. Click Connect to dial the connection. After a successful connection, the new username and password information will be saved.

Help us help you! If you contact Tri Way Net support for assistance please write down any error messages you get when trying to connect to the Internet. Include the name and version of your operating system and the exact text of all error messages. If this information is included in an online case submission or provided to a support representative, it will greatly speed up the troubleshooting process.

Please be aware that some troubleshooting may require uninstallation and reinstallation of operating system files. To ensure that this type of troubleshooting can be accomplished if required, please be sure that you have to have original Operating System CD or Operating system source files on disk on hand.
